My Self Portrait Video

What I did for my self-portrait was I did a project on my Novation Launchpad Pro. The Launchpad is a really cool controller for the music making program Ableton Live. It's also a 64-button drum machine, meaning you can also make a song directly on the controller with Ableton. I wanted to show others for my love of EDM and dubstep. Eventually, I want to kick off my music making career very soon. The song I did on my Launchpad was Poison by Martin Garrix, which has been a big inspiration for me ever since he came out with Animals.

The biggest symbol of the video was the Launchpad itself. I also used a birds-eye view style of camera work because I wouldn't have been able to hold my phone while playing because you need two hands to do the project. The main thing I wanted to get across was that this is the thing that I want to do for a living. Even if some people don't like dubstep or EDM, I still want to make great music soon and hope to be a great inspiration to others to help the EDM/Dubstep community to grow.

I feel like I was pretty successful for doing my performance because I had never actually recorded myself doing it and showing more than two people at once. It made me feel good that some of my friends came up to me and told me that it was the coolest thing they saw after we finished presenting all the others. Some challenges where me trying not to screw up a lot and hoping that my dogs would not start to bark at random, making me have to start all over and record again. I took about 8 recordings, each one at a different part where I mess up. Other than that, it was super fun and I will practice a lot more and hopefully make my first song very soon.
