Sophomore Graphic Design Final Blog

This semester in Graphic Design was pretty good. We did around seven projects and I had to choose three of my favorites. My first favorite would be the personal branding logos project. It took around 3 to 2 to 3 weeks to complete, which was enough time for me because I finished pretty early. Some challenges I faced was trying to get everything aligned on my TRIAD logo, which I think is the best one I made. I put a vector triangle over the A and made another logo that also stood for TRIAD but as a triangle. Some skill I learned from this project was the different types of colors schemes can sometimes be better than the original one you came up with. I didn't really get a lot of feedback, but I had one friend say that I should go with another design I made which was named BL!NK. I thought it was ok, but I went with TRIAD instead. I made a few changes to some of my works, but TRIAD stayed the way it was the whole time. Overall, I loved this project and I'm very happy with the results.

My second favorite project was probably the Event Advertisement project. This project we had to choose between doing a musical artist or an actual artist. I did deadmau5 and Marshmello crossover event. We had around 4 weeks to complete it, but again, this one was pretty easy as well. Some challenges I faced were getting stuck thinking of a cool poster idea. But eventually I got through it and it turned out great. Some skills I learned were cool tricks to make the poster pop like overlapping certain images by changing the opacity. I had some changes to my original idea because it was a little too ambitious to do, so I sort of simplified it and it looks a lot better than what I had in my head. Overall, I had a good time making this and it turned out nice.

My third and final favorite project would be the Vector Illustration project. This one we had to take a picture of someone or something and either do a low poly or an organic version of the picture we took. I did a low poly of my 12-year-old dog Roxy. This project took about 4 weeks to complete and it was a bit difficult for me to do because I didn't have a lot of time personally to do it and we had to pack for Spring Break so I was a bit stressed. Some challenges I faced during this project were trying to figure out where I would put the triangles to make it look good. I barely had any changes to my original idea once I had a basic understanding of where to put the triangles. Overall, this was a cool project, but to me, it didn't really seem like the best work I could have done.

Staying focused and productive is a bit tricky in the class I was in because we are all very social and talked a lot. ButI would just listen to music to help tune out what could have distracted me. I did not research ways to improve myself, but when I go into Entertainment next year, I will make sure to do that. I did a little bit of double checking my projects before I turned them in because I wanted to try to get the best grade I could have gotten on whatever project I did. Sometimes if I needed to, I would stay after school and finish the project that I was working on because we got a late penalty if we didn't turn it in on time.

Some of my strengths as an eComm student would be that I have a pretty creative mind and can think of something pretty fast like my Personal Branding Logos. I love to be with others sometimes because I know some pretty cool people who think like me and are very good at eComm as well. But other times I like to be by myself because I can do what I want without someone else not liking the idea I had.

Some areas where I need improvement would be trying to stay focus. I don't have ADHD or ADD, but I tend to doze off and stare into space, but I can shake myself out of it most of the times. I also have a problem with not communicating like I should. In person, I do well with talking with a group over a topic, but I forget to get phone numbers and stuff like that so we can communicate when we are not with each other.

In conclusion, I will miss this class. It was such a fun environment and everyone basically knows each other and we all get along very well.  The projects were fun and I wouldn't change anything about the class. Graphic design is sort of for me, but I can't wait to get into Entertainment next year. (No offense Mrs. Beaudoin)
